Ngama Birrang ‘Mothers’ Journey’

Ngama Birrang ‘Mothers’ Journey’ reflects the journey women go on into motherhood. It reflects the rollercoaster of emotions, significant life change alongside the internal learning, self-acceptance, love and reasonable sacrifice occurs. This piece expresses and acknowledges the healing that is needed following giving birth. For us as mother, coming to terms of how our reality has just changed within moments and the beauty of having your little gudha ‘baby’ in your arms and realising your whole world has just changed because you have become someone’s world. This piece also expresses the inner connection, ngurrbul ‘love’ and total trust in our intuition and instincts that we never knew we had.

The gudha is represented within utereo in the top left corner with the circle of support ‘our village’ surrounding us as mothers in the centre as we walk into the next stage of welcoming our gudha into the world in the bottom right corner. The coolamons share our connections to our nurturing spirit, internal self and ancestral wisdoms. The piece emphasis on the journey we go on through the crosshatching represent land and connection to country.
